D-Visa to Austria
World-Class Education in the Heart of Europe
- Overview
- The Type D Visa is mandatory for entering Austria to pursue a Bachelor’s or Master’s program. This visa allows a stay of up to 6 months.
- Residence
- Permit To extend your stay for studying beyond 6 months, you must apply for a Residence Permit in a timely manner.
- Application Process
- Appointment Booking: Schedule an appointment online.
- Application Submission: Apply in person at the Embassy of Austria in Addis Ababa or at VFS (Visa Facilitation Services).
- Required Documents: Present all necessary documents on the date of your appointment.
- Processing Time
The standard processing time for the visa is approximately 45 days. Note that only a single-entry visa will be issued.
- Arrival in Austria
- Upon arrival, you must register with the local registration office within three working days at your place of residence.
- Travel and Work Travel:
- This visa allows you to travel freely within all Schengen states. Work: A work permit or confirmation of notification is required for any gainful employment.
Have the following documents inorder to apply your student (type D visa) visa to Austria:
- Passport:
- Valid for at least three months after leaving the Schengen territory.
- Must contain at least two empty pages.
- Issued within the past ten years.
- Passport-sized Photograph:
- Size: 3.5 x 4.5 cm.
- Must be in color.
- Notification/Confirmation of Admission:
- From the Austrian higher education institution.
- Signed Letter from Educational Institution in Ethiopia:
- Includes your personal data, name of institution, contact details, course enrollment, and duration of study.
- Final Qualification Achieved:
- Undergraduates: Grade 12 university entrance exam certificate and high school transcripts (all authorized).
- Graduates: Degree and student copy (all authorized).
- Preliminary Flight Ticket Booking. Proof of Accommodation.
- Recent Bank Statement:
- Covering the last three months, and/or a personal bank savings book.
- OR a confirmation of the award of a scholarship.
- Proof of Financial Status:
- Evidence of personal/family ties in Ethiopia.
- Proof of Appropriate Health Insurance.
- Choose Your University and Course:
- Select the desired program and institution in Austria.
- Submit Application Documents:
- Provide scanned copies of all required application documents to the university.
- Pay Application Fee:
- Pay the processing/application fee and sign an agreement.
- Await Conditional Acceptance Letter:
- Wait for the university to send you a conditional acceptance letter.
- Admission Fee Payment:
- Upon receiving the acceptance letter, you may need to pay an admission fee, part of the tuition fee, or a deposit to the university’s account.
- Receive Official Acceptance Document:
- After the payment is confirmed, you will receive the official acceptance document needed for your visa application.
- Prepare Visa Application Documents:
- Gather all required documents for the visa application.
- Apply for Visa:
- Submit your visa application at the Austrian visa center in Addis Ababa.
- Fly to Austria:
- Travel to Austria to start your classes.
